Jawbox formed in Washington, D.C. in 1989, playing a kind of post-hardcore that felt both raw and thoughtful. They put out their first album in 1991, and by 1994 they were on Atlantic Records for 'For Your Own Special Sweetheart,' which included the song 'Savory.'
Bassist Kim Coletta left the band in 1994, and Zach Barocas joined. They released two more self-titled albums in 1996 and 1997 before calling it quits that same year. Their sound had a particular tension to it, heard in tracks like 'Cooling Card' and '68.'
They were never a huge commercial band, but their music stuck around. People still talk about 'Savory' and that 1994 record. The band's activity was concentrated in those eight years, and that's mostly what they're known for.
