Jayr Alencar was a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Ceará who started writing and performing as a teenager in Fortaleza. He released his first album in 1974, followed by several others including 'Voz e Violão' in 1976 and 'Terra Brasilis' in 1980. His band included Zé Gomes on bass, Telo Borges on drums, and Nivaldo Ornelas on keyboards.
His most recognized song is 'Balada de Uma Estação Nascente,' which came out in 1976. The track blends samba and bossa nova elements with poetic lyrics about renewal.
Alencar kept performing and recording until his death in 2020. While he wrote about various themes, 'Balada de Uma Estação Nascente' remains his best-known piece, a ballad that found an audience with its melodic approach and seasonal imagery.
