Archive material and source history
Jayrone o Furacão Romântico formed in the early 1980s in Itapebi, Bahia, with João de Carvalho (Jayrone), Antônio Floriano (Tonho), and Antônio dos Santos (Tonhão). Their sound pulled from samba, forró, and rock, and they put out a few albums in quick succession, including "Três Desafios" in 1982, "Furacão Romântico" in 1983, and "Desafio do Amor" in 1984.
"Três Desafios" became their best-known song, a jukebox staple in bars and dance halls across Brazil. The band faced some accusations of plagiarism around that track, which they denied. They kept a low profile, rarely giving interviews, which added to their somewhat mysterious reputation.
