Jazmin Del Paraguay formed in Asunción, Paraguay in 1965, started by brothers Carlos and Oscar Escobar. They were joined by guitarists Yiyo Lombardo and Juan Cancio Barreto, bassist Justo Sanchez, and drummer Marcos Gonzalez.
Their song "Y Voy Cantando" became their most recognizable work. The group's music drew from traditional Paraguayan rhythms like polka and guaranias, with lyrics that touched on love and patriotism.
In the 1970s, they faced accusations of promoting communist ideologies through their lyrics, but continued performing. They released albums including "Y Voy Cantando" in 1966, "Los Mejores Exitos de Jazmin Del Paraguay" in 1972, and "La Orquesta de la Alegria" in 1980.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
