Jb formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s with Jonathan Corrêa on vocals and guitar, Cézar de Mercês on bass, Mauro Berman on guitar, and Marcelo Córdova on drums. They weren't easy to categorize, working somewhere between alternative rock and experimental electronica with some Brazilian rhythms mixed in.
Their 1996 album 'Entre a Serpente e a Estrela' gave a good sense of what they were doing, raw, introspective songs with Corrêa's lyrics touching on existential themes. They recorded a live album at Rio's Cine Jóia in 2000 that captured their energy on stage.
Songs like 'Cuida Bem Dela' and 'Quer Namorar Comigo?' show their range, from melancholic ballads to more direct rock tracks. They kept at it into the early 2000s, releasing another album simply called '2001' that continued their particular blend of sounds.
