Archive material and source history
Jeannie Pruett was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1945. She grew up listening to country music, with Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, and Loretta Lynn among her early influences. In 1970, she signed with RCA Records and released her debut album, 'Jeannie.'
That album included 'Satin Sheets,' which became her breakthrough single. The song reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Its lyrics and Pruett's delivery drew some criticism from conservative audiences at the time, but it became a radio staple.
She released several more albums through the 1970s and early 1980s, including 'Sweete Jeannie,' 'Love Me... or Leave Me Alone,' and 'Woman to Woman.' Her band included her husband Jimmy Pruett on bass, along with guitarist Tommy Jackson and drummer John Hughey.
