Jeito Nordestino formed in Recife, Pernambuco in the late 1990s, with founding members Zé Dilson, Alex Mendão, and Emerson Nogueira. They played local venues for a few years before their 2003 debut album changed things. That record included "#BIS," a song that caught on nationally and became their signature track.
Their sound drew from Northeastern Brazilian rhythms, and songs like "Coração Buliçoso" and "Telefona" followed a similar upbeat, celebratory pattern. They released several more albums through the 2000s, including Nordeste Independente in 2005 and an acoustic set in 2007.
The band faced internal tensions, including a reported argument between Dilson and Mendão around 2010 that led to Mendão's departure. They continued for a few more years but disbanded in 2016. Their music, particularly "#BIS," still gets played at parties and events in Brazil.
