Jelly Puppies

Jelly Puppies formed in 1993 in Salvador, Bahia, with four friends: vocalist and guitarist Júlio César, bassist Marcelo Nova, drummer Guga de Paula, and keyboardist Márcio Dalmazio. They put out their self-titled debut album the next year, which included the song "Amanhã A Noite." That track became something of an anthem in Brazil, with its hopeful lyrics and catchy melody getting steady radio play.

Their early work mixed Bahian rhythms with alternative rock, and they followed up with albums like "A Conquista do Mundo" in 1996 and "O Sol Ainda Brilha" in 1999. Other songs from that period, like "Alguns Erros" and "Em Vão," showed their range with socially conscious lyrics and melodic hooks.

The band faced some criticism for speaking out on political issues, and members dealt with personal struggles that occasionally made news. They kept recording through the late '90s, but the details of their later career aren't well documented here.
