Jennifer Knapp came out of Kansas in the mid-1990s. Her debut album 'Kansas' arrived in 1996, and a song from it, 'Faithful to Me (Prelude)', became a breakout hit that put her on the national map. She followed that with albums like 'Lay It Down' in 1998 and 'The Way I Am' in 2001.
Her music, which included songs like 'Better Off' and 'Letting Go', often dealt with introspective and theological themes. In 2006, she made a public statement about no longer being certain about the existence of hell, which drew criticism from parts of the Christian community. She has also spoken about personal struggles, including a hospitalization in 2004.
Knapp kept making music after that period. The work she did later, which includes songs like 'If It Made A Difference' and 'Usher Me Down', continued to draw listeners who connected with her straightforward writing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
