Jesca Hoop grew up in Santa Rosa, California, and spent time in Topanga Canyon. Her debut album was called 'Kismet,' and she followed it with records like 'Hunting My Dress' in 2009 and 'The House That Jack Built' in 2012. She's worked with her husband, producer John Parish, and other musicians to shape her sound.
Her songs often have a quiet, off-kilter quality. Tracks like 'Dreams In The Hollow' and 'Animal Kingdom Chaotic' show her leaning into folk and experimental textures. She's kept at it through the years, putting out 'Memories Are Now' in 2014 and 'Stonechild' in 2018.
Some early listeners found her music unusual or hard to categorize. She's kept writing anyway, letting the songs come out as they will.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
