Jesse Sykes

Jesse Sykes is a singer-songwriter from Seattle who began writing and performing early, influenced by folk artists like Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. In the early 2000s, she formed the band The Sweet Hereafter with guitarist Phil Elverum, releasing their debut album 'All of This' in 2002. After Elverum left to focus on his solo work, Sykes continued as a solo artist.

Her first solo album, 'Distant Land,' came out in 2004 and was noted for its introspective quality. She followed it with albums like 'Like, Love, Lust & the Open Halls of the Soul' in 2006 and 'Marble Son' in 2009. Songs such as 'Oh, My Girl,' 'Aftermath,' and 'Birds Over Water' reflect her style of writing.

Sykes has been open about dealing with depression and addiction, elements that appear in her music. In 2016, she faced criticism for remarks on social media and later apologized. She has continued to release music, including 'Sunday's on Union' in 2019.
