Jets to Brazil formed in Minneapolis in 1993 with Blake Schwarzenbach on vocals and guitar, Chris Daly on bass, Josh Freese on guitar, and Matt Pfahl on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1995, and the single 'Chinatown' got some attention for its melodic pull and Schwarzenbach's particular way with a lyric.
They put out a few more records in the late '90s, like 'Four Cornered Night' and 'Perfecting Loneliness'. The lineup shifted a bit after the first album, with Adam Pfahl taking over on drums. Songs like 'King Medicine' and 'After Hour Perfection' kept working that same ground of tuneful, somewhat brooding indie rock.
They were one of those bands that seemed to mean a lot to a specific slice of the '90s alternative audience, the kind where the singer's voice and lyrical perspective became the main point of connection. They stopped putting out records after 2000's 'Thank You For Your Support'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
