Jica y Turcão were a Bolivian duo made up of Wilfredo "Jica" Condori and Vicente "Turcão" Rojas. They started playing together in the early 1990s, with Condori coming from the altiplano region and Rojas from the valleys of Cochabamba. Their song "Ana Boliviana" came out in 1999 and became widely known.
They put out albums like "Añoranzas" in 1995, "Dilema" in 1997, and "Mi Tierra" in 2002. Along with "Ana Boliviana," their catalog includes tracks like "La Cucaracha," "Tororó," and "Valsa Sem Vergonha."
Their music mixed traditional Andean sounds with pop and rock elements, which some listeners initially resisted. They toured around Bolivia, playing in both small villages and larger cities. Beyond music, they were involved in campaigns about social and environmental issues in their country.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
