Their name nods to Gil's father, the composer Gilberto Gil, and also references a street dance. They started with a sound that mixed rock, samba, and electronica, which drew some early criticism.
Their second album, "Oceanos," came out in 2004 and included "Dias de Um Futuro." That song became widely popular in Brazil, with lyrics about dreams and time that connected with listeners.
