Crystal Staircase

Well baby baby, I can tell you

Life for me ain't been no crystal stair

It's had tacks in it

And splinters,

And boards torn up,

And places with no carpet on the floor

The tacks are the minor things that happened

The splinters are the ones hurt me inside

And the boards are, even worse because

They affect me all the the time inside and outside

Sometimes I, wonder if this

Whole thing can get easier

I keep on, taking steps back

Because every stairstep is a day in my life

So that's why, I try to stay positive now

Cause I can just tell you that

Every step I'm taking is always a challenge

The things that can bring me down

Are making me take a step back

But I had never ever gave up on my life

It can be so hard, but you'll make it through

I'm not even close to reaching the top
