Jimmie's Chicken Shack formed in Baltimore in 1991, with Jimi Haha on vocals and guitar, Kenny Kiser on bass, and Eric Ruben on drums. Their debut album 'Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope' came out the following year. The band developed a reputation for raucous live shows and lyrics that didn't shy away from provocation.
Their song 'Don't Fit In' became something of an anthem for listeners who felt outside the mainstream. The band's material often dealt with topics that drew criticism, and they faced obscenity charges after a 1995 show in Cincinnati. This kind of friction seemed to reinforce their anti-establishment stance rather than diminish it.
They released several more albums through the late 90s and early 2000s, including 'Cockadoodledoo' and 'The Good, the Bad, and the Clucky.' Other tracks like '10 Miles' and '30 Days' show the band working within their particular blend of punk, rockabilly, and country influences. They maintained a core lineup for much of their run.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
