JM MC formed in São Paulo in the late 1990s, with DJ Leo and MC Xuxa at the core. Their debut album 'Eu Lírico' came out in 1998, mixing hip-hop with Brazilian rhythms. MC Xuxa left in the early 2000s, leaving DJ Leo as the only original member.
They kept making music after that, putting out records like 'O Último' in 2000 and 'Favelas S.A.' in 2003. Their songs sometimes touched on social issues, which drew attention from authorities and conservative groups in Brazil.
By 2007 they had released 'Tudo que Sabe,' their fifth album. The band's sound shifted over those years, taking in elements of soul and funk alongside the hip-hop they started with.
