João Compositor was born João Francisco dos Santos in Pontalina, Goiás. He released his self-titled debut album in 1985, which brought him national attention in Brazil. His 1989 album 'Camadas do Tempo' included the song 'A Conta da Tristeza,' a ballad that became particularly well-known.
