João Lacerda was a Brazilian singer and composer born in Rio de Janeiro in 1931. He started playing guitar and singing young, drawing from samba and bossa nova. His career took off in 1960 with 'A Filha da Vizinha,' a playful samba that became widely popular in Brazil.
He recorded several albums through the 1960s and 1970s, including 'Praça Onze' in 1962 and 'Samba do Grande Amor' in 1965. Lacerda worked with other Brazilian musicians like Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque. In the 1970s, some of his material faced censorship from the military government, but he kept writing and performing.
His recordings include songs like 'Acorda Povo' and 'Amando Gostoso,' and he did features with artists such as Edson Lima on 'Bote Pegado Parea' and Maciel Melo on 'Já É Madrugada.' Lacerda had a band with him for live shows, but the focus was usually on his voice and guitar.
