João Paulo Dias came up in São Paulo, where he started writing songs influenced by Brazilian artists like Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. His debut album 'Além do Fim dos Dias' arrived in 1998, anchored by the title track, a ballad that resonated with listeners for its melancholic tone.

That first record established his sound, introspective, often somber, built around his voice and acoustic guitar. He kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like 'Cidade Cinza' and 'Janela do Céu' without much shift in approach. He worked occasionally with other Brazilian musicians, including Marisa Monte and Arnaldo Antunes.
