João Paulo e Leandro

João Paulo and Leandro were brothers from Goiás, Brazil, who started performing together in the mid-1970s. Their 1984 debut album introduced a style of romantic ballads that connected with listeners, and songs like 'Que Tal?' became staples in Brazilian sertanejo music. They kept releasing material through the 1980s and into the 1990s, with tracks such as 'Rasga o Céu e Vem' adding to their catalog.

In 1990, Leandro was arrested for drug possession, an event that drew media attention and complicated their public image. The duo continued working, but in 1997, João Paulo was diagnosed with cancer and died later that year at age 35. Leandro took time away from music after his brother's passing before eventually returning to perform on his own.
