João Suplicy came from a political family in São Paulo and started making music in the early 2000s with his band João Suplicy e Seu Conjunto. His debut album 'Eu Sou Esse Cara' came out in 2003, and he followed it with records like 'Quem É Você?' in 2006 and 'Samba de Calçada' in 2012.
His version of 'Always On My Mind' became widely known in Brazil around 2006. Other songs like 'A Graça e o Palhaço,' 'Santa e Louca,' and 'Quando Eu For Pro Céu' show his range as a songwriter. He's known for a raspy voice and lyrics that touch on love and social themes.
Suplicy has sometimes drawn attention for his views. In 2010 there was a legal issue over the word 'favelado' in his song 'Meu Guetto.' He kept recording through the 2010s, putting out 'Favelostomia' in 2017.
