João Teimoso formed in 1995 in the Sapopemba neighborhood of São Paulo, where a group of friends shared an interest in Brazilian styles like samba, choro, and MPB. The band took its name from its vocalist, João Teimoso, and included Carlos César on cavaquinho, Paulo Roberto on pandeiro, Marcelo Durães on surdo, and André Travassos on drums.
Their debut album, 'Éta Mundo Bom,' arrived in 2002, followed by 'O Vento' in 2005 and 'Claridade' in 2007. The title track 'Claridade' became one of their most recognizable songs, alongside others like 'Longe' and 'O Que Quisesse Ser.' They later released 'Mundo Melhor' in 2012 and a live recording, 'Ao Vivo no Rio de Janeiro,' in 2018.
João Teimoso has performed at festivals including Montreux Jazz Festival and London Jazz Festival. Their music draws from traditional Brazilian rhythms while incorporating other influences, maintaining a focus on their São Paulo roots.
