Joca Libânio was born in 1960 in Ilhéus, Bahia. He started playing music in the late 1970s with his sister Toya Libânio's band, and they put out an album called "Orquídea Negra." His solo recording of Toya's song "Areia de Estrelas" came out in 1984.
He made other albums like "O Rio e a Cidade" in 1990, "Rio Babel" in 1997, and "Sobre o Amor e Outros Delírios" in 2004. He worked with Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and João Bosco at different points.
Some of his songs include "Blue," "Existalgia," "Hai-Kaiser," and "Janaína."
