He released several albums including "Joe Santos" in 1964, "Coisa Mais Linda" in 1966, and "Essa Boquinha" in 1967. His band included musicians like guitarist Roberto Menescal, accordionist Severino Filho, drummer Wilson das Neves, and bassist Nelson Angelo.
Santos was known for having strong political views and occasionally found himself at odds with the establishment. He collaborated with artists including Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso. He continued performing and recording until his death in 2013.
