Joey California formed in São Paulo in 1995 with Felipe Machado on vocals, Ricardo Miranda on guitar, Marcelo Mata on bass, and Pedro Campos on drums. They put out their first album 'Vitrola e Vinho' in 1997, followed by 'Casa de Bonecas' in 1999.
In 2002, the song 'A Árvore de Folhas Amarelas' became widely known in Brazil. The band released several more albums over the next decade, including 'Dois Perdidos Numa Noite Suja' in 2005 and 'A Volta do Mundo em Um Dia' in 2011.
Another of their songs, 'Alinne Com Dois Enes', appears among their most recognized work. The group's recordings often mixed bossa nova and folk elements with a straightforward pop sensibility.
