John Parr is the English singer-songwriter who wrote and performed "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)" for the 1985 film of the same name. The song became a global hit and earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He was born in New Malden, England in 1954.
Parr released his self-titled debut album in 1984, followed by "Running the Endless Mile" in 1986 and "Under Parr" in 2009. Other songs in his catalog include "Running Away With You," "Blame It On The Radio," and "Heartbreaker." He worked with musicians like David Foster, Bryan Adams, and Eric Clapton.
There were some difficult periods in his career, including struggles with addiction and a copyright lawsuit over his song "Naughty Naughty." But "St. Elmo's Fire" has remained his most recognizable work, a song that still gets played decades later.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
