John Paul Young was born in Glasgow in 1950 and moved to Australia as a child. He started performing in local bands as a teenager, and his first single "Pasadena" came out in 1972. The song that really defined him was "Love Is in the Air," written by his brother George Young and released in 1978. It became a worldwide hit, topping charts and selling millions of copies.
Before "Love Is in the Air," he had songs like "Yesterday's Hero" and "Standing In The Rain" in his catalog. After the big hit, he kept recording through the 1980s and 1990s, though with less commercial impact. He also did some acting in Australian television and film. In 2000, he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
