Archive material and source history
John Schlitt joined the Christian rock band Petra as their lead singer in 1986. He was with them for about a decade, during which the group put out several platinum albums. After leaving Petra in 1996, he started releasing solo work. His 1998 album was called 'John Schlitt: Love Beyond Measure.'
Some of his solo songs include 'Inside Of You,' 'Faith & Freedom,' and 'Gravity.' He also recorded holiday tracks like 'Little Drummer Boy' and 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.' In 2005, he released an anthem titled 'Fighting the Fight,' which became well-known in Christian music circles.
Schlitt has been open about personal struggles with alcoholism and marital issues during his Petra years. He's also been vocal about his faith and, at times, his political views, which have drawn some criticism. He continues to write and perform music that reflects his beliefs.
