Johnny Hernandez Ds

Johnny Hernandez formed his band Johnny Hernandez y Sus Diferentes Sonidos (often shortened to Johnny Hernandez Ds) in San Antonio, Texas in 1970. The group's sound was rooted in norteño music, with Hernandez handling vocals and accordion alongside a rhythm section. They released their first album, Recuerdos, in 1971.

Their 1972 single "Acuérdate de Mí" became a significant hit, helping establish them with a wider audience. Other songs like "Como Olvidarte" and "Se Valiente" also became part of their repertoire. The band's lineup changed at times, with musicians like Jesus Rodriguez on bass and Raul Chavez on drums appearing in early configurations.

In 1975, Hernandez was arrested on a marijuana possession charge, an incident that drew some public attention. The group continued performing and recording through the 1970s, putting out albums like Orgullo Mexicano in 1974 and Cinco Años in 1976. Their later work sometimes incorporated other styles alongside their norteño foundation.

Johnny Hernandez Ds remained active in regional Mexican music circles for years. Their recordings, particularly from the early 1970s, are still heard on Spanish-language radio in Texas and northern Mexico.
