Archive material and source history

Johnny Hoes was a Dutch singer who worked in the 1950s and 60s, mixing country music with Dutch folk songs. He started playing guitar early and had a band called The Blue Devils. In 1957 he put out his first album, 'Johnny Hoes en zijn Blue Devils.'

His most famous song was 'De Boerinnekesdans,' an upbeat tune about young women dancing at a village festival. It kept playing on jukeboxes and at live shows anyway.

Hoes kept making albums through the 1960s and 70s, trying different styles like pop, gospel, and mariachi. He also recorded songs like ''t Is Kerstmis' and 'Ach Vaderlief.'

He performed until around 2000, though he had some personal troubles with drinking and depression later on.
