Archive material and source history

Johnny Lee was born John Willard Lee in 1946 in Beaumont, Texas. He started playing music in the early 1960s with a band called The Roadrunners, performing at local nightclubs around Texas.

His 1973 debut album included 'Yellow Rose of Texas,' which became his best-known song. That same record also had 'Lookin For Love,' another track that stayed in his setlists for years. He performed regularly at the Grand Ole Opry during the 1970s and 1980s.

Lee kept recording through the 1990s and 2000s. His catalog includes songs like 'Prisoner Of Hope' and 'Rolling Lonely,' which show the straightforward country style he developed early on.
