Johnny Lima grew up in Fortaleza, Ceará, where his father played guitar and sang traditional northeastern folk songs. He started performing in local bars and clubs there before signing with Som Livre in 2014 and releasing his self-titled debut album.
His 2015 single "Coração Safado" became a major hit in Brazil, topping charts and establishing him as a popular sertanejo singer. Other songs like "Não Vivo Sem Você" and "Fire Of Love" followed in a similar vein of romantic themes.
He was born João Lima de Oliveira on May 23, 1984, and has cited Luiz Gonzaga and Elba Ramalho as influences from his region's music. The plagiarism accusations around "Coração Safado" were something he denied, saying the song came from personal experience.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
