Johnny Tillotson was a pop singer from Jacksonville, Florida who had his biggest success in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He signed with Cadence Records in 1958 and scored a Top 10 hit with his debut single "Dreamy Eyes." His voice had a smooth, baritone quality that worked well with the sentimental ballads that were popular at the time.

His signature song came in 1960 with "Poetry in Motion," which became a defining hit of that era. The song's gentle melody and romantic lyrics about a "lady in a million" connected with listeners and has remained his most recognizable recording. Other songs like "Why do I Love You So?" and "All Alone Am I" followed a similar pattern of straightforward, heartfelt pop.

As musical tastes changed in the mid-1960s, Tillotson's style of traditional pop became less commercially prominent.
