Jojoman formed in Lima in 2006 around José Torres on vocals and guitar, Jorge Loredo on bass, and Javier Herrera on drums. They started playing a mix of rock and pop with some Andean rhythms, though early on they had trouble finding places to perform.
Things turned around in 2008 when they put out their second album, 'Tirita.' The title track became a hit, and it helped them reach a wider audience in Peru. Another song people know is 'Wine Up.'
Some of their lyrics drew criticism for what people saw as violent or misogynistic themes, like in the song 'Sigamos Matando.' The band said they were just writing about real life in Peru. They kept making albums through the 2010s, including 'Bésame' and 'Amor y Dolor,' and later added guitarist Juanchi Maraví and keyboardist Danny Hermoza to the group.
