Archive material and source history
Gerard Joling was born in 1960 and started making music in the 1970s with a band called The Reest. His first single came out in 1981, a song called "No More Boleros" that did well enough to get him noticed. He kept putting out records through the 1980s and 1990s, including "Ticket To The Tropics" and "Dan Ben Jij Dat Wel."
He's also done television work in the Netherlands, which is how a lot of people there know him. The music tends to be straightforward pop with romantic lyrics, the kind of thing that gets played on the radio. Some of it has stuck around, like "Read My Lips" and "Tu Solo Tu."
There were some financial problems in the late 1990s that led to bankruptcy, but he kept working. The career has had its ups and downs since then, with the usual mix of recording and television appearances.
