Jonas Carping is an alt-folk trio from Sweden's west coast, formed in 2014. The group started when Jonas Carping, who had been writing songs in Göteborg, teamed up with cellist Anna Svärd and percussionist John Eriksson. Their debut single "Anything" came out in 2016 and became their breakthrough track, known for its haunting melody and introspective lyrics.
In 2017, Anna Svärd left the band for personal reasons, which changed their sound. They later added cellist Nora Kayser in 2018. The group has released albums including "Anything" (2016), "The Light" (2018), "Past Present Perfect" (2020), and "Reverie" (2022). Other songs in their catalog include "Left In Here," "Serenade," "The Sting," and "Underground."
At one point, they faced some criticism for performing at a corporate event connected to the oil industry, which some saw as conflicting with environmentalist themes in their music. The trio continues to perform with Jonas Carping on vocals and guitar, John Eriksson on percussion, and Nora Kayser on cello.
