Joop Visser

Joop Visser was a Dutch singer who became known for his 1971 single "Heineken," a song about the beer that gained attention both in the Netherlands and abroad. He had formed his own band, The Joop Visser Combo, in the late 1960s, playing local venues before that record changed things.

His other songs included "Altijd weer," "Amsterdam," and "Anna en Mona." Albums like "Komm mal rüber" from 1971 and "Heineken" from 1973 followed, but the beer song's success also led to a trademark dispute with the Heineken company that lingered for years.

Visser dealt with personal difficulties, including struggles with alcohol and depression. In 1977, his son died in a car accident. He kept recording into the mid-1970s, with a self-titled album in 1974, but never matched the reach of that early hit.
