JOPIN formed in Recife, Pernambuco in 1975 with founding members Luiz Galvão, Alceu Valença, and Jorge Mautner. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1978 and included the song "Anunciação," which featured Alceu Valença. That track became their most recognizable work.
After Alceu Valença left in 1983 to focus on his solo career, Galvão and Mautner continued with new members like bassist Zé Renato and drummer Paulo Ricardo. They released albums including "Terra Brasilis" in 1985 and another self-titled record in 1990.
Later, JOPIN recorded "Touch The Ground" with Maggie Szabo, showing they kept working with different collaborators over time.
