His first solo album came out in 1981, and one of its tracks, 'Because of Love,' became widely known. He recorded other songs like 'It Has Accepted My Love' and 'My Dream.'
His music sometimes mixed different styles, and in 1985 he put out an album called 'Tim Maia Racional' that had soul and reggae elements. He worked with musicians including Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Marisa Monte at various points.
Tim's career included some public disagreements and personal difficulties, but his recordings kept finding listeners. He made albums into the 2000s, with one called 'Jorge Ben Jor' appearing in 2005.
