Jorginho Cruz was born in Peniche, Portugal in 1961. He started singing in local choirs and festivals, drawing from the traditional music around him. In 1983 he released his first solo album, 'Peniche.'
His song 'A Luz de Nossa Senhora' became widely known in Portugal. Other songs like 'Chega de Chorar' and 'Chuva Na Serra' also found listeners. He worked with guitarist António Moreira and bassist Paulo Sérgio.
Cruz recorded several albums including 'Amor de Portugal' in 1984, 'Esta Terra É Nossa' in 1987, and 'Ser Português' in 1995. His music often reflected Portuguese traditions and daily life.
