'Menina da Praia' caught on widely, though its lyrics about a moonlit beach romance drew some criticism for being too explicit at the time. He kept writing and recording, following up with albums like 'Menina dos Olhos D'Água' in 1990 and 'Bahia Azul' in 1993.
His music pulled from samba, reggae, and bossa nova, with the sea and his home region often showing up in his songs. Another track, 'Morrendo de Saudade,' also became well-known among his listeners.
