Jose de Espronceda

José de Espronceda formed in Madrid in 1984, with Carlos Escobedo on vocals and guitar, Toni Escobedo on guitar, Roberto Iniesta on bass, and Deivhook on drums. They started out playing heavy metal but worked in folk and progressive elements too, touring steadily and putting out a couple of independent albums in their early years.

Their big break came in 1997 with 'La Canción del Pirata,' a ballad that caught on and pushed them into the mainstream. The song's pirate theme and haunting melody gave them a wider audience and more recognition than they'd had before.

They kept making albums after that, like 'Inmersión' and 'Imaginaria,' with lyrics that leaned poetic and explored personal themes. The band denied it, saying any similarities were coincidental.
