Joseval de Jesus was born in Minas Gerais in 1942. He came up through Brazilian samba and MPB, and in 1975 he released 'Gentileza Amor,' a song about kindness that caught on with listeners. It became his best-known work.
He recorded other albums like 'Meu Caminho' in 1977 and 'A Vida é um Milagre' in 1982. Later on he put out a 2002 album also called 'Gentileza Amor' with a new version of the song. He worked with musicians including Zé Américo, Fernando Augusto, and Paulinho Costa in a group sometimes called Os Mensageiros.
There was a copyright dispute over 'Gentileza Amor' in the late 1970s that went on for a few years. He also recorded the song 'Vai Seleção.'
