Jota do Acordeon e Forró Sideral formed in 1994 when accordionist Jota (born João Batista da Silva in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará) joined forces with bassist Dedé Santana's band Forró Sideral. Their debut album 'Forró com Classe' came out in 1996 and helped establish them nationally.
They released several albums in the early 2000s including 'Coração Chorão' in 2000, which shares its name with one of their popular songs. Other tracks like 'De Rostinho Colado' and 'Forró do Bom' became staples in their repertoire. The band was known for playing traditional forró with some modern touches.
In 2005, the group faced a copyright infringement case that they eventually won. They continued performing and recording after that, maintaining a presence in Brazil's forró scene.
