Jota Jota formed in 2005 when childhood friends Alessandro Elias de Souza (Jota Jr.) and Juliano Gonçalves de Souza (Jota Cebo) decided to start playing together. They put out their first album, simply called 'Jota Jota,' in 2008.
Their 2015 song 'Brilho do seu olhar' became their biggest hit, getting heavy radio play across Brazil. Other tracks like 'A Conquista' and 'Fim de semana é da gente' also found an audience. They released several live and studio albums, including 'Ao Vivo em Campo Grande' in 2011 and '100% Sertanejo' in 2012.
Some listeners felt their music took sertanejo in a more modern direction, mixing in pop and rock sounds that weren't always traditional. They kept recording and playing shows with that style through the 2010s.
