Jovens da Capital formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1993, with Fábio Brandão, Marcelo D2, and DJ Hum starting out in a local community center. Their first album came out the following year, and the track 'Caminho' from it became a national hit.
They put out a second album called 'Marginal' in 1996, which showed a shift toward more socially conscious material. Marcelo D2 left the group in 1998, but they kept recording, releasing 'Hora do Show' in 1999 and 'De Volta ao Começo' in 2004.
Their music mixed pop and rap with Brazilian rhythms, which drew some criticism from traditionalists at the time. Still, songs like 'Caminho' stayed in regular rotation at festivals and got covered by other artists.
