Juanse, born Juan Sebastián Gutiérrez in Buenos Aires, started playing music influenced by punk and heavy metal bands like The Ramones and AC/DC. In 1984, he formed Los Ratones Paranoicos with bassist Pablo Memi, guitarist Sarcófago, and drummer Roy Quiroga. Their live shows built a following in Argentina's rock scene.
He recorded several albums with the band, including their self-titled 1986 debut and '¡Fieras Lunáticas!' in 1989. Later, he put out solo records like 'Juanse' in 1993 and 'Jaque Mate' in 2003. The song 'Jaque Mate' became one of his better-known tracks, along with others like 'Clásico Rockero' and 'Energía'.
Juanse's lyrics and public statements sometimes drew criticism, but he kept making music on his own terms. He worked with various musicians over time, including guitarists Jimmy Rip and Richard Coleman. His sound mixed rock styles without fitting neatly into one category.
