Juanzin formed in Rio de Janeiro around 2010, when three friends started playing together. They were João Beraldo on vocals and guitar, Luiz Felipe on bass, and Daniel Gonzaga on drums. Their first single, "Se Me Chamar Eu Vou," came out in 2011 and caught on with listeners.
They put out an album called "Pra Bahia Voltar" in 2013, which won them a Troféu Caymmi award for Best Band. Later records included "A Vida É Boa" in 2016 and "Tempo Perdido" in 2019. The music pulls from samba, MPB, reggae, and rock, with lyrics that touch on everyday life and relationships.
Beraldo's writing draws on figures like João Gilberto and Chico Buarque, while Felipe's bass work nods to players like Jaco Pastorius. Gonzaga's drumming brings in elements from Vinnie Colaiuta and Brazilian percussionist Renato "Batata" Costa.
