Julia Vero formed in Lisbon with Julia Martins on vocals, Pedro Rodrigues on guitar, João Costa on bass and keyboards, and Inês Duarte on drums. They built their sound playing live around the city before releasing their debut single "Lilac Sky" in 2015. That song's melody and Martins' vocals connected with listeners and gave the band its first real audience.
After touring behind that single, the band took a break in 2018 when Martins needed to rest her voice. They returned with their first album "Celestial," which developed the atmospheric quality people heard in "Lilac Sky." A second album called "Aurora" followed with somewhat darker material.
There was some friction with a record label around 2019 over the band's direction, but they kept making music their own way. Their songs have since appeared in some films and television shows, and they've played to full rooms on recent tours.
